safety Safety First

We give children all kinds of lessons on safety, but when do we teach them how to safely exist with animals in society? When animals are struck by cars or otherwise injured, kids might step in, not realizing they can get hurt from animals in distress. We can teach them to be an alert signal, to have eyes and ears open and be ready with resources to call in the right people. In the process, they learn lessons that can't be taught using words alone. About survival, second chances, and compassion.
Be Cautious
KIDS: Don't approach an animal you don't know. Your job is to be the eyes and ears, an alert signal. Call someone for help if you discover an animal needing assistance. When animals are lost, they get nervous and scared of people. They might lash out towards well-meaning human rescuers by biting or scratching. Serious injuries can occur. Even seasoned animal rescuers aren't necessarily trained for aggressive animal handling. Find experts who are experienced with the specific animal in distress.

a mutt on a mission
I'm usually the one rescuing the animals.
But this time the animal rescued me.
For six months, she traveled between the two houses. Didn't miss a day. Sometimes several times a day.
